How Much Does Home Solar Save in Israel? (2026)
For a home with a bi-monthly electricity bill of 1,200 ILS, the SUNCAL engine sizes a 6.38 kWp system that produces about 10,527 kWh a year and is worth about 5,203 ILS a year (about 434 ILS a month) in the first year, under the 2026 tariffs.
This is an estimate for one standard case: uniform tariff, south-facing concrete roof, no shading, no battery, application for a grid connection in 2026. Your own figure depends on your consumption, roof and tariff; the calculator below gives it.
The worked example
| Annual consumption (from the bill, after fixed charges) | 10,533 kWh |
|---|---|
| System size | 6.38 kWp DC, 5.1 kW inverter, about 13 panels of 500 W (rounded up) |
| Annual production (AC) | 10,527 kWh |
| Share of production used at home | 41.8% |
| Exported to the grid | 6,130 kWh |
| Value in year one (savings + feed-in revenue, net of the system cost and the PV owner's fixed-charge addition) | 5,203 ILS |
Where the value comes from
- Every kWh of solar used at home saves the consumption tariff: 63.52 agorot/kWh incl. 18% VAT (53.83 excl. VAT), uniform tariff from 2026-07-01.
- The IEC charges a system cost on self-consumed solar: 8.99 agorot/kWh excl. VAT (Tariff Book tables 8.1-1 and 8.1-2, Decision 69305). Without a production meter it is billed on normative production by inverter size.
- Every kWh exported is paid by cumulative tiers of the approved (AC) capacity: 48 agorot/kWh up to 15 kW for applications filed by 31 December 2026 (Decision 70103), and the lower tier rates on the capacity above that. See the feed-in tariff page.
- A home with a PV plant pays a fixed addition of 19.73 ILS a month excl. VAT (Tariff Book table 5.4-1), deducted from the value above.
- The engine simulates all 8,760 hours of the year: production after inverter clipping, the home's hourly load, and what is exported. Panels lose 0.4% a year; consumption tariffs are assumed to rise 2% a year in the 25-year cash flow (feed-in tariffs stay fixed).
How long is the payback?
Payback is the installed price divided by the yearly value, adjusted year by year for degradation and tariff changes. There is no official Israeli price list for home solar, so SUNCAL does not assume one: enter the price of your quote in the calculator and it builds the 25-year cash flow and the payback year. Comparing at least three quotes is the practical way to judge a price.
What changes from 2027?
The 2026 feed-in tariffs apply to applications filed by 31 December 2026. Electricity Authority hearing 751 proposes lower feed-in tariffs for applications from 2027; it is a proposal, not a decision. The Hebrew calculator can show the 2027 case under the proposal for illustration. Status: regulation updates (Hebrew).
